The promotion of sport at school age is one of the most important lines of work for the Regional Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport. This was the context behind launching the Esport a l’Escola programme, which aims to promote the practice of physical activity and the knowledge and awareness of different sports in the school environment, as well as training in healthy habits and teaching values.
Esport a l’Escola, which is subsidised by the Generalitat Valenciana, is carried out in schools promoting physical activity and sport (CEPAFE) and is aimed at pupils in the 5th or 6th year of primary education and the 1st and 2nd year of ESO.
It is put into practice through an educational unit consisting of six theoretical and practical sessions to be carried out in each school during the physical education class timetable, with the assistance of a qualified technician from the corresponding sports federation, who will lead the sessions in collaboration and coordination with the school’s physical education teacher.
The sports offered include: athletics, chess, handball, badminton, baseball and softball, fencing, pilota, hockey, judo, karate, orienteering, paddle tennis, rugby, lifeguarding and first aid, table tennis, archery, triathlon, volleyball and adapted sports.
